Not your mama's General Store

Got any bread?

Nope.

Milk?

Definitely not.

You might have already realized the we aren't the "General Store" of days past - you won't find your cheese and butter here!  Our actual name is Rubymint General - and when we looked into whether to call ourselves "Rubymint General Boutique" vs. "Rubymint General Store," we decided on the latter.

General Stores were established in the 18th and 19th century in many remote populated areas, where one "general" store was enough for the whole community. You could find a broad selection of merchandise in a very small space.  These stores were often gathering places - a place to catch up with the neighbors on the week's politics and gossip.  In the 20th century, general stores began to be displaced, some by urbanization, some by big box stores, among other reasons.  Though few and far between, you might still run into a General Store on a road trip while traveling through rural parts of America.

In our small space in the historic Coronado Neighborhood, we love all things unique, handmade, and local.  We have something for everyone.  We support local whenever we have the choice.  And if we are looking for a gift for a loved one (or ourselves!), we want it to be one of a kind.  Our patrons are our neighbors and friends, always.  And we are happy to gossip with you all day long!  These are the reasons why we decided to call ourselves Rubymint General Store.

Come by and gossip with us today!  #notyourmamasgeneralstore
